| bio Miranda Caroligne represents the work of Miranda C. Burns. While Miranda’s talents range from performance art to philosophy, and installation art to authorship, her primary focus is in the creation of wearable art from salvaged textiles. She was raised in the nature of woodlands and oceans, nestled among a pile of scrap fabric with a needle in one hand and a magnifying glass in the other. Formally trained and licensed as a Physical Therapist (MSPT), Miranda has her own unique way of tailoring garments to enhance body form and mechanics. Her designs have been available to the public since August 2001, and are proudly adorned by performers and fascinating individuals for the playfully dramatic and expressive qualities. Her fashion shows, performances and stunning one-of-a-kind creations have established her as a bright new star in San Francisco’s constellation of provocative artist-designers. She gives a fun peek inside this world in her new book, Reconstructing Clothes for Dummies, August 2007, Wiley Publishing. Miranda is currently based out of her own boutique, Miranda Caroligne, a living construction boutique, located in the Mission District, with a brand new collaborative boutique, Pandora’s Trunk, in the Lower Haight District of San Francisco. artist statement I am fascinated with people, our interactions, and particularly our evolution and development. I believe in developing a community of self-actualized individuals and diminished wastefulness. With all of my art, I seek to open eyes and stretch comfort levels within a nurturing environment. Intuition is my primary tool. I am driven to bring out the beauty in everything by salvaging available materials, discarded clothing, remnants and scraps. I like to make use of the things that are otherwise deemed useless, just as I have an intense appreciation for the quiet wisdom of often overlooked individuals. Currently I am swimming in the dream of the living construction boutique. My intention with both my boutiques is to offer public space for individuals to connect: artists, collectors, friends and collaborators. Works by participating artists are created in the front window in order to bring both an appreciation for the art form, as well as to inspire the lay-person to do it themselves. Through its example, the boutique serves as a platform to make statements on the following: supporting local artists, creating community, finding the artist in everyone, realistic body image, alternate economy and diminishing waste in our society. |
